Are you thinking about using qualitative methods in evaluation? Would you like to understand when these methods will add value and to feel more confident about how to work with this kind of data?
These online learning materials aim to break down the process of collecting and analysing qualitative data in evaluation, to help you use these methods with confidence. They are aimed at people working in all areas of health and social care who would like to know more about using qualitative methods in evaluation.
The content of the sessions includes:
why qualitative evaluation is needed and the contexts in which it is useful
examples of how to collect qualitative data, including a process for conducting interviews and focus groups
approaches to recording data from interviews and focus groups
different ways you can analyse qualitative data to help make sense of the data collected
how to summarise, write up and present qualitative results.
The materials consist of recorded slide presentations that you can watch at your convenience. There are 7 separate videos so you can break up the learning (total time to watch: 85 mins). There are a number of activities suggested during the sessions, to help embed the learning.
You can access these materials now, from the right-hand menu on this page.
In addition, to accompany these materials, we will offer a live Q&A session on Zoom (duration: 90 mins) at times throughout the year. Dates will appear below as these are advertised. This will provide group discussion about using qualitative methods and the opportunity for participants to ask any questions arising from the pre-recorded materials.
