Oli Williams’s image selected as a winner in University of Bristol’s A Picture of Health competition
16 March 2017
An image from Oli Williams’s Equity is the Answer exhibition has been selected as one of the best pictures from the University of Bristol’s ‘A Picture of Health‘ project. The project aims to encourage communication between researchers, foster new collaborations and showcase their research to the public.
Oli is the Dan Hill Fellowship in Health Equity Research Associate at NIHR CLAHRC West and his picture, ‘Constrained Choices’ was one of the winners in the ‘consumption’ category.
Oli’s picture, above right, uses a quote from George Orwell’s Animal Farm to critique health promotion that emphasises personal choice. The jackpot reference illuminates the simple fact that we do not choose the circumstances into which we are born. In a vastly unequal society our initial luck in life will hugely influence the choices that we are able to make and therefore what we will consume.
University of Bristol researchers sent in images that represented their work and research interests, related to one of six broad themes:
They received over 60 submissions from researchers from eight different departments across the University of Bristol, which were judged by a panel of University of Bristol staff. Visit the A Picture of Health website for the full selection.
