NIHR CLAHRC West Dan Hill Fellowships in Health Equity appointed

NIHR CLAHRC West has appointed two Dan Hill Fellowships in Health Equity: Dr Charlotte Chamberlain and Dr Oli Williams. The fellowships enable early career researchers to undertake research addressing health inequalities or promoting health equity.

Charlotte is a public health consultant trained in population health. Her research aims to explore the barriers to specialist palliative care services for patients without cancer and for the elderly, and to evaluate interventions to improve equity of access to palliative care for these groups. Oli, a sociologist, will explore the outcomes of local healthy lifestyle interventions in deprived areas of Bristol, Bath and Swindon, with particular attention to inequalities in access and outcome.

The fellowship is named after Dan Hill (1984-2013), who was instrumental in developing and preparing the CLAHRC West bid to NIHR. Dan had a very strong sense of the need for justice and equality, giving up time and energy to support homeless people and other similar causes. This fellowship is dedicated to his memory.

Staff at CLAHRC West have raised £2,702.08 so far this year for local homeless charity Emmaus, through activities including the Bristol Half Marathon and Halloween fancy dress day.
