CLAHRC West Chair Mark Pietroni appointed Visiting Professor at University of Bristol
22 March 2017
We are delighted to announce that Mark Pietroni, the Chair of the NIHR CLAHRC West Board, has been appointed Visiting Professor at the University of Bristol. This is in recognition of Professor Pietroni’s contribution to research in general, and public health research in particular, in the Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG) area.
Professor Pietroni trained in medicine in Cambridge and the London Hospital, Whitechapel, before moving to Bangladesh. He worked first in a small mission hospital in a rural area of north-west Bangladesh, and then moved to Dhaka to lead an international public health research centre.
On returning to the UK, Mark became Director of Public Health in South Gloucestershire. He quickly established himself as a significant figure in public health in the region, joining and then leading the regional group of Directors of Public Health. He has been Chair of the CLAHRC West Board since its inception in 2014, and played a key role in the development of the BNSSG Sustainability and Transformation Plan.
Professor Pietroni said:
“I’m delighted to receive this honour from the University of Bristol. I am enthusiastic about the role of CLAHRC West in shaping applied health research in the region. It has been particularly exciting to see an increasing number of interesting collaborative projects between academics and frontline practitioners emerge. These projects aim to integrate services across the health system to improve the health of people living in the community.”
CLAHRC West Director, Jenny Donovan said:
“This is a very well-deserved accolade for Mark, who has been very influential as Chair of CLAHRC West in ensuring that we focus on research aiming improving health locally and nationally.”
