Jenny Donovan made Emeritus Senior Investigator in 2016 NIHR competition
9 May 2016
NIHR CLAHRC West Director Jenny Donovan has been made an Emeritus Senior Investigator in the 2016 NIHR competition. Jenny has been appointed for her work in public health. Other CLAHRC West staff appointed in this round were David Gunnel, theme lead for public health interventions, for his work in epidemiology and prevention of chronic disease, and Tim Peters, theme lead for effectiveness, for his work in economics, statistics and biostatistics.
Fifty-one Senior Investigators were appointed in the ninth annual round of the competition – 34 new appointees and 17 current or previous holders of the award. The total college now stands at 202 Senior Investigators.
Thirty new Emeritus Senior Investigators have been created for a total of 53 Emeritus Senior Investigators. Senior Investigators are able to occupy their positions for no more than two terms, covering a maximum of eight years. This creates opportunities for new researchers to participate in NIHR at this level, incentivising the research community whilst maintaining the College of Senior Investigators at a manageable size. The new Emeritus status applies only whilst the holders remain in substantive employment.
An independent expert panel chaired by Professor Melanie Davies advised on the appointments. These are made according to criteria of quality and volume of internationally excellent research; its relevance to patients; the public; impact on improvements in healthcare and public health; research leadership; contribution to NIHR; engagement of patients and the public and engagement of healthcare policy makers and planners with their research.
NIHR Senior Investigators and Senior Investigators Emeritus are listed in the document below. Full details are available on the NIHR Senior Investigators Directory, updated on the 1 April each year.
