New video explores the benefits of patient reported experience measures in audiology

A new video highlights why using a new patient reported experience measure (PREM) questionnaire for audiology patients could improve the care and support they receive. The video outlines the benefits of using the questionnaire which has been developed as part of the HELP (Hearing loss and patient experience) study.
Patient reported experience measures help make care more patient-centred. Different patients have different issues, and the PREM gives them the opportunity to talk about their specific challenges and what matters most to them, in terms of managing their hearing loss.
The video is aimed at audiologists to help them understand how PREM works for hearing loss and how it could be incorporated into appointments. It brings together animation explaining the PREM and processes around it, and real-life testimony from an audiology patient and consultant.
As the video explains, the HELP PREM is based on robust research:
“We reviewed existing research evidence; interviewed patients and members of the public; and rigorously tested the questions. As a clinician, you can be confident that the patient’s responses accurately reflect how hearing loss impacts their everyday life, helping you understand what support they need.”
Dr Helen Pryce, a researcher specialising in audiology at Aston University, leads the HELP project. She said:
“We think the PREM we’ve designed could make a real difference to audiology services. The PREM will tell us about important variations in patient experience and help guide clinicians to consider tailored solutions. Ultimately, we hope it will make audiology services more patient-centred.”
