All NIHR Applied Research Collaborations celebrated their first birthdays on 1 October 2020. Here’s what NIHR ARC West has achieved in its first year – in numbers:

• 11 new (non-COVID) research projects
• 11 new COVID-19 research projects
• 15 COVID-19 rapid research projects
• 13 research oversight group meetings
• 55 collaborators
• 25 partners
• £2.5m co-funding
• 25 training courses run
• 357 training course attendances
• 3.73 out of 4 average score for our training courses

ARC West’s Director Professor John Macleod said:

“One year into the voyage of ARC West and what a year.

“Last October, I spoke about my excitement and trepidation and about the floods and stormy seas I anticipated us having to navigate – what an understatement!

“I could not be prouder of the way that every single member of the ARC West team has responded to every challenge the past 12 months has presented and how we have continued to work with our partners and our public contributors to co-produce evidence that makes care better.

“I am so lucky to have the opportunity to work with brilliant people who want to make a difference and have the skills to make this possible. Bring on the next four years!”
