Popular workshop explores co-production in implementation
20 December 2022
A popular workshop exploring co-production in implementation is now available to watch online. The event is part of a series of implementation workshops organised across the National Institute for Health and Care Research Applied Research Collaborations (NIHR ARCs), held in autumn and winter 2022-23.
The series aimed to stimulate discussion across a range of topics around implementation. Discussion notes from all four events are being collated to help develop recommendations to inform future ARC plans and strategies.
The organising group are Caroline Leigh Watkins (Implementation Lead ARC North West Coast), Graeme Curry (Implementation Research Lead ARC West Midlands), Paul Wilson (Implementation Science Theme Lead ARC Greater Manchester), Hayley Lowther-Payne (ARC North West Coast) and Sabi Redwood (Implementation Lead ARC West).
The workshop was chaired by Sabi Redwood and Paul Wilson. It brought together 100 researchers, NHS professionals, members of the public and others to hear from a range of speakers on topics including:
Exploring the role of patients and the public in the implementation of evidence into practice: the PIPER project
Presented by Sophie Staniszewska (University of Warwick) and Magdalena Skrybant (NIHR ARC West Midlands)
Integrating coproduction into implementation research
Presented by Lucy Yardley (Universities of Southampton and Bristol)
From PPI to co-production: reflections on a programme to help victims of domestic abuse Presented by Gene Feder (University of Bristol) and Michelle Farr (NIHR ARC West)
Knowledge mobilisation with underserved communities – a panel discussion, led by Andy Gibson from NIHR ARC West with contributions from Roy Kareem (health ambassador), Olivia Sweeney (health ambassador), Julie Swede (lived experience member, Bridging Gaps), Adele Webb (public contributor) and Michelle Farr (researcher).
Dr Sabi Redwood, NIHR ARC West, said:
“We were delighted with how popular this session was. It’s clearly a topic that people are keen to hear more about and we had some fantastic speakers.
“We were oversubscribed so I hope that the video will allow those who missed out on the day to catch up with everything that went on.”
The ARC implementation workshop series also included other events on maximising the impact of NIHR-funded research, bringing organisation science to implementation science and capacity building for implementation.
